Portville Hall of Fame
Harold “Red” Miner had a legendary impact on many Portville residents
throughout their lives. He began his career in a one room schoolhouse,
teaching at various locations, including Mill Grove and Deer Creek, for 17
years. In 1943, he joined the staff at Portville’s Main Street school building
and continued teaching mathematics at Portville Central School until 1967.
Mr. Miner was known for his discipline, hard work, and expressive comedy.
He had a genuine love for his students, and his intensity for life was infectious!
