Originally from Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Verna Clark received her
bachelor’s degree from Fredonia State Teachers College.  She also attended
Potsdam State Teachers College where she and 24 other teachers from across
New York State were chosen to develop a curriculum for kindergarten.
Verna taught for 28 years in various districts including Duncansville,
Pennsylvania, Savona, New York, Albion, New York, and at Portville Central
School, where she taught for 15 years.  She also tutored and served as a
substitute teacher.

Verna was a 58 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, having served
as the Matron of Tyler Chapter #97, Portville, in 2002 and 2003. She served as
New York State Order of the Eastern Star Representative for Volunteers for
Veterans Medical Center in Batavia, New York, a position she held for over 24
years.  She also served as director of the day care center at Eastern Star Home
in Oriskany, N.Y., as well as volunteering with the Genesis House, the YMCA,
church and school events. Verna remained active in the community and
enjoyed many hobbies, including following family events.  She passed away in
September 2010.

Ed and Verna Clark’s careers as educators were just part of the picture. As one
long-time professional acquaintance noted of them, “They like people and they
like life.”
