Mrs. D. M. Dusenbury Succumbs To Illness

PORTVILLE – Mrs. Marie Page Dusenbury, wife of Donald M. Dusenbury, Portville, widely known
for her activity in health and welfare work, died in the Olean General Hospital Wednesday night (June
25, 1958) after a very brief illness.

Mrs. Dusenbury was born in Olean, March 7, 1887, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson R. Page
and was married to Mr. Dusenbury in Portville on August 8, 1906.  She resided in Olean and in
Portville for her entire life.

Surviving besides her husband are one son, John E. Dusenbury, Olean; two grandchildren; one
brother, Lawrence R. Page, Tulsa, Okla.

Throughout her life, Mrs. Dusenbury was active in the organization and direction of many welfare
and health groups.  She was a member of the board of directors of the Cattaraugus Public Health
Association since May, 1920, and had served as vice president and president of the organization.  On
May 16, 1957, she was awarded the Silver Order of the Double Barred Cross for her more than a
quarter century of service to the anti-tuberculosis and public health movement in Cattaraugus County.

She was instrumental in the establishment of the Cattaraugus County Mental Health Society and on
May 2, 1957, she was presented a distinguished service award by the society for her interest in
mental health.  She had served as a director of the society since its formation in 1956.

Deeply interested in the work of the Olean Chapter of the American Red Cross in Olean and in
Portville, Mrs. Dusenbury organized the surgical dressing unit of the Portville branch of the Olean
chapter and the unit met in her home throughout World War II.  She and her husband opened their
home to persons driven from their homes by high water during the flood in Portville.

Mrs. Dusenbury was a former member of the Portville school board and was active in the affairs of
the Cattaraugus County Women’s Republican Club.  She was a director of the Olean High Alumni
Association from 1939 until 1958.  She was one of the organizers and the first president of the St.
Francis Hospital Guild and was a member of the Olean General Hospital Auxilliary.  She was the
organizer and the first president of the Portville Garden Club.

Mrs. Dusenbury gave much personal service to the organizations in which she was interested.  She
was active in the summer camp for children conducted at Rock City from 1912 to 1916 and gave
much time and energy to a score of undertakings in both Olean and Portville during her life.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Portville, the Olean Chapter of the Daughters
of the American Revolution, the Bartlett Country Club, the Cattaraugus County Association for the
Blind, and the American Red Cross.

Funeral services will be held at the family residence here Saturday (June 28, 1958) at 2 p.m.  The
Rev. Charles Peet, minister of the First Presbyterian Church, Portville, will officiate and burial will be
in the family plot in Chestnut Hill Cemetery.
