Portville Hall of Fame

Charles O. Eshelman graduated from the U. S. Military Academy at West Point and received two
Masters from Harvard University.  After serving 27 years in the Army, he retired as a full colonel in
the Army Corp of Engineers.  Her returned to Portville to live out the rest of his life.  A long-time
trustee of the Portville Historical Society, he deeded the old schoolhouse, the Grange Hall at Bedfrod
Corners, and his residential property to the Historical Society.  He contributed generously to the
Pfeiffer Nature Center, donating his vast acreage on Yubadam Road for the development of nature
trails, known as the Eshelman Tract.
